(Exodus 20:19-23, Joshua 24:15, Matthew 6:5-18, Matthew 26:41)
We shall be considering a few things that are necessary for asking from God correctly.
1) Know Who God is
Long to know Him more, day by day and moment by moment. Do not flee from getting closer to God as the Israelites did (Exodus 20:19-23) and are known for (Joshua 24:15). Despite the fact that they felt terrified by God’s awesomeness, they still went to do exactly opposite of what was spelt out to them. Our being able to please Him comes from our knowing Him. We must know that what we do are more important to Him than our confessions. So, with this we will be rest assured that He is able to do what we ask from Him (if it is His will), even though His timing may be different from ours. He makes all things beautiful in His time.
Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
2) Knowing the Act of Asking from Him and Receiving the Grace for Asking from Him
Matthew 15:29, Matthew 17:1
When the disciples asked Jesus about how to pray, it was not because they were not praying before. Off course, in one way or the other, they knew about prayer. However, when they watched Jesus prayed, they discovered that there was more to His prayer than they knew. There are dos and donts of prayers that they likely do not know until Jesus began to teach them about it.
3) Do not let your prayers be guided by lust, greed or any (negative) vice
When asking, we must be watchful so that our asking from God will not arise from lust, greed or any vice. The reasons we are asking from God is very important. This determines what we are going to use what we get for. It may be that we are only asking to do a show off of wealth or just for self-gratification. Always ask and use all things according to the will of God and to His glory. It must be to His glory and not used in ways that makes others reproach God. Using what we receive in a way that pleases God is using it in ways that will not harm others, degrade others, cause sexual sins or that will not make others fall into sins.
