(2 Samuel 12:14, Romans 14:15-19, Acts 4:13, Romans 7:15-24, Galatians 2:20)
Are people learning about obeying Jesus Christ from us? Or are they learning disobedience from us?
Are friends copying Christlikeness from us or they copy hypocrisy and blasphemy from us?
… because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme… 2 Samuel 12:14
This was the King of glory speaking to his beloved (David) in 2 Samuel 12:14
Many are the accusers of the righteous. Many are those who have no mission than to lay wait on the children of God in other to find fault and accuse them before God (the Judge of the whole universe). Brethren, do you know that your enemies are not just your enemies, they are also the enemies of God. Whoever rise against the children of God, has God (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) to compete or fight against.
Do you know our Lord boasts about us to other people, and surprisingly to the spirits? Do you know many who the Lord has recommended you to, as case study for righteousness, patience, perseverance etc? I am sure we do not know the numbers of people that the Holy Spirit has brought close to us in other to learn the way of God from us. Maybe we know few of them. So when we consciously or unconsciously go into transgressions, many things get dismantled “behind the scene” – spiritually and physically. Many people also become destabilized.
When we go astray, that little child, our parents, friends or even strangers also get confused and most time follow suite, going astray. Many are under our umbrella that we never knew were under it, on whom we will give account. Some of our brethren chosen by the Lord to labour together with us on the field become discouraged or stranded (2 Timothy 4:10) when we abandon the fervency of our love for Jesus (John 15:14).
Please know these:
1) The Lord boast about you to others and the demons (Job 1:8, Jeremiah 35:14)
At times when you are still in the making of the LORD, he would have started showing you to some of His children who either know or does not know you (without you knowing). He might be showing who you would become in Him to His children like you who is happy to see that day (Luke 2:25, 26). If one then backslides he or she will be leaving God with explanations to those people that” “what I once showed you has taken another turn because the vessel has stumbled and missed it”. This will not be our portion in Jesus name.
2) He appointed you to some of His fields.
3) He appointed co-workers with you.
4) He has recommended you to some disciples as case study or who to follow.
These ones will also be destabilized if you do wrongs before God. Your salvation is not yours alone it is working for some as that of David is working for us now.
Please beloved, do not let us do things that will give opportunity to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme. Do not let us do what we drag the name of God in mud. Do not let us give reason for others to reproach the Lord Jesus through us.
5) The Bible says we are the ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20)
We are the ambassadors of Christ Jesus, commissioned by Him to all nations. First in Jerusalem, from Judea, to Samaria then to the uttermost part of the world. This means we are ambassadors of Christ first to our home, then to our extended families and friends, then to those who are close to us. After this to strangers. We will notice that the Lord did not say it in the reverse like from the rest of the world to Samaria to Judea to Jerusalem. So the first people that should know that we are good people should be those in our (homestead) home. If strangers like our coworkers, friends and church members know we are good but our home which is our own Judea does not know us to be good then we are not doing too well in representing Jesus in their midst. We are not ambassadors of Christ Jesus to only strangers, no, we are first to out home.
6) Let not then your good be evil spoken of (Romans 14:15-19).
It is not only when we do evil that we misrepresent Jesus our Lord. When our good is spoken of as evil we misrepresent Him. When the good we do becomes oppression to others, displays our deeds as holier than thou attitudes, discouraging others instead of encouraging them, belittling others, glorifies us other than God etc then we should examine and ask for the Lord help to “fine-tune” such good.
Let us see this Bible passage in other versions (Romans 14:16).
(AKJV) Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
(ASV) Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
(BBE) Let it not be possible for men to say evil about your good:
(EasyEnglish) You may think that something is good. But still you should not do it if it will cause people to say bad things about you.
(ISV) Do not allow what seems good to you to be spoken of as evil.
At this juncture, if we are the type of people that our good is spoken of as evil, please, let us begin to tell the Lord Jesus to intervene in our case. If instead of winning people for Him we are loosing them, how will Jesus see us? Good or bad ambassadors?
When they see us they should be see Christlikeness.
Christlikeness is
17…righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
18 For he that in these things serves Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
Hence,
19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things with which one may edify another.
These are things when people see in us, they will glorify our Father in heaven. These are things people see in us and they decide to serve the Lord.
We should not do those things that makes others to transgress or stumbles.
We should not give the enemies of God opportunities to blaspheme or accuse God of partiality/discrimination/injustice, if He does not punish us.
We should not present our good as evil.
What we do should be seen in the light of
… righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Until then shall they glorify our Father in heaven, instead of reproaching Him because of us.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus be upon us.
