HIS CROSS
When we talk about His cross- Jesus’ cross, many questions may arise in the minds of some people. The world wise men will put forward their questions and opinions which they think should be accepted on the table of reasoning and logic. Among of their personal reasoning and opinions come question like, “what is so special about the cross of Jesus Christ, if other were also crucified just like those thieves crucified with Him at Calvary. We cannot so much dwell elaborately on the vast knowledge of His cross opened to all from the eternal wisdom of God because of available time and space but we will dwell with the outlines as the Holy Spirit will be releasing to us.
The cross on its own was not the great thing but He that was crucified on it was the greatest that the world would see. The cross was a thing of shame and reproach devoid of all glorification except that of Jesus that was crucified on it-the King of glory. The questions is now, “How can the thing of curse then be a thing of our glorification”? It is because Jesus that was crucified on that cross at Calvary (according to the testimony of the thieves crucified with) was not crucified because of His guilt unlike others who tasted the same (Luke 23:39, 41).
The cross is the plan of God for the world to be reconciled to Him yet it was the orchestration of the evil ones. If they had known that the cross will be our evidence of victory, then they would not have crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:8, Colossians 2:14,15). The righteousness of Jesus was possible for us to be cloth with because it was removed and taken from Him. Our unrighteousness and sins were cast on Him instead. For this reason, the Holy eyes of God which could not behold iniquity was taken away from Him (Isaiah 53:3-10) that Jesus cried out, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). His righteousness is now available to us as gift (by grace and mercy) to be cloth with, with His crucified as the price. In that, when we live a life of righteousness it is not we but Christ living it in us. (Romans 5:15-18, 1 Corinthians 1:29,30).
As great as Moses was, God did not say whoever look up to Moses but he said whoever look up to the serpent on the stake will live.
The Bible says He that comes from above is above all John 3:31. Jesus came from heaven above, solely to be crucified then no other crucifixion is comparable to His. His crucifixion is above all. It is our victory above sin (its power and nature), kingdom of darkness and flesh.
So brethren, look to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.(Heb 12:2a). It was not Cephas, not Paul, not Apollo, not pastors, not the prophets or not even the Saints that was crucified for you but Jesus Christ was crucified for you. Our salvation is not by church denomination but by faith in Him that was hanged on the cross.
The cross He endured is our avenue to victory. It is the price that must be paid which He paid fully.
HIS RESURRECTION
However, we will be preaching an incomplete gospel of our Lord Jesus if we preach only the cross without the resurrection. What is Jesus’ resurrection? Ultimately, it is the VICTORY OVER THE CROSS. The resurrection is the prize to be won for us. It is the defeat that the kingdom of darkness suffered and will never recover from. It is a deadly blow that even death received and Bible says
“having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be held of it.”(Acts 2:24)
The cross was to silent His authourity (Acts 5:34-42) but behold, it was by it the table was turned around against them- the devil and his agents. It condemned them and their power of sins. The resurrection did not only condemned them but judged and destroyed them and their plans. Moreover, wiping out their evidences against us (Colossians 2:12, 14), taking them completely out of the way. Jesus says, “now the prince of this world is judged” (John 12:31, 32). Judged by the reason of His resurrection!
This is our victory!
This our victory over the devil, sins and flesh. (1 Corinthians 15:17, Philippians 3:10).
