(Leviticus 17:11, Exodus 12:13, Exodus 12: 22-24, Matthew 26:28)
Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you on the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul
Exodus 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses…
The blood of Jesus was shed during the time of the passover feast (time when the blood of lamb is used as sign on Israelite doorposts, as instructed by God in Egypt). Some of the blood of the lamb (lamb without blemish) is applied on the two doorposts and upper post symbolizing the sign of the cross of Jesus. Jesus’ crucifixion during the passover symbolizes His replacing the one year old lamb. The blood of Jesus shed on the cross is now our blood of passover. Blood of Jesus was shed for all, even for the chiefest and wretched sinners to come to repentance.
This has put an end to all sacrifices because all was pointing to Jesus who is the final one.
Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins
Jesus’ suffering was the bargaining, crucifixion as the paying of the price, giving himself up as the ransom (price fully paid) and using His blood as the seal of the transaction. It is finished. Our victory is sealed with the blood of Jesus (Rev 12:11).
The blood of Jesus is for our sanctification, atonement, remission, redemption, reconciliation, and protection. It is our blood of passover, mark of sonship, price (currency) that bought our freedom from the Egypt of life, seal of the new covenant and the sin cleansing pool. Halleluiah!
As the blood of the old covenant is sprinkled, so we plead the blood of Jesus on ourselves and all that belong to us.
… And when I see the blood, I will passover over you…
